Namaste, I am Shanta Kumar Baniya, managing director of Magic Himalaya Treks and Expeditions. Magic Himalaya has been one of Nepal’s leading mountaineering and trekking companies since 2013. I was born in the Dhading district, in Fulkharka, where the Himalayan ranges are a few hours’ walk away. I started working as a trekking porter in 2000 and started guiding in 2002. Before being a tourist guide, I worked in the hotel and had done the hotel management training.
I used to be the hike leader for the Annapurna and Langtang regions at the start of his guiding career in the Everest region and restricted areas such as Nar Phu, Manaslu, Mustang, Dolpa, etc. Since 2008, some of the biggest trekking companies in Nepal have hired me as an Everest specialist. I have explored Mustang, Kanchenjunga, Langtang, and numerous other regions.
During guiding time, I did many teahouse treks, such as the Everest Base Camp trek, Annapurna Base Camp trek, Annapurna Circuit trek, Upper Mustang trek, Jomsom Muktinath trek, Mardi Himal trek, Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, Gokyo Valley trekking, Manaslu Tsum Valley trek, Makalu Base Camp trek, and Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek. At the busiest season, I have been to some of the remote treks, such as the Upper Dolpa trek, the Lower Dolpa trek, the Rara Lake trek, and the Humla Limi Valley trek.
Some of my favorite treks are Everest Base Camp combined with luxury options and yoga & meditation. I also enjoy completing the shorter and more scenic Chisapani-Nagarkot trek.
From Guiding to Operator
In 2014, I, Shanta Baniya, and my brother Nabin started our own company called Magic Himalaya Treks and Expeditions, which provides its service of trekking and mountaineering. This company provides services in Nepal, Bhutan, India, and Tibet based on client requests. He is one of the best trekking operators and trekking leaders in Nepal. Currently, I manage all activities in Nepal.
