Lukla to Everest base camp

Lukla to Everest base camp is one of the best trekking in Nepal. It is popular due to the visit to a base camp of the world’s highest mountain that is Mount Everest. Sagarmatha is the Nepali name of Mount Everest and Chomolungma is what the Chinese called it.

Before doing this exciting hiking to Everest base camp people need to reach Lukla village in Solu Khumbu. There are different airlines doing flights to Lukla such as Tara Air, Simrik Air, Goma Air, Sita Air, summit air, and Nepal Airlines once in a week.

The different helicopters also take you to Lukla village which is expensive travel. Landing in Tenzing Hillary Airport Lukla is an exciting journey by plane. Right now due to a visit to Nepal 2020, the Tribhuvan international airport in Kathmandu is not doing flights to Lukla so there is another way of visiting Lukla.

We need to drive up to Ramachhap to catch a flight to Lukla. This will be fine by next season so there will be regular flights from next season onward. Lukla is on 2840 meters elevation and it will be 30 minutes flight.

After Lukla Airport

After landing in Lukla we will have breakfast in Lukla and then start walking. Today is only three hour’s walk and going on 2610 m elevation. We will pass Cheplang village, Thada Koshigaon, and ghat before reaching Phakding village where we will stay overnight.

We will start following the Dudh Koshi River passing Benker, Monjo, and Jorsella. Have lunch in Jorsella and then Cross suspension bridges.  We will pass Hillary’s suspension bridge before reaching the first viewpoint of Everest. Everest can be only seen on a clear day. We will reach Namchebazar which is the Sherpa capital and gateway to different trekking routes.

With a stunning 6 hours hike we will have free time in Namche to walk around .during Friday and Saturday there will be local markets that are interesting to visit. Namche Bazaar is a 3444 m elevation.

Rest day during the trek

The next day is acclimatization day but instead of staying ideal, we will visit Visitor Park or Everest viewpoint to enjoy Everest’s view and make our body comfortable on the high Mountain. We will stay again in Namchebazar.

Everest base camp

Today is the day to reach the base camp of Mount Everest. We start walking around 6 or 7 on the side of the Khumbu glaciers. We will also cross another glacier before reaching Gorakshep. Gorakshep is the last village so we will have a quick lunch and start hiking to base camp. Walking around 2 hours from Gorekshap we will make it to Everest base camp.

Everest base camp is not the proper place. It changes after the glacier move and the glacier moves every year which is why the base camp changes every year. Everest base camp is on 5364 m elevation and it is like a market during climbing season. The base camp is full of tents and people including yak that carry luggage or climbing gear. After spending some time in base camp with a stunning view of mountains Such as Pumori is an awesome feeling.

We are standing on Khumbu glacier near Khumbu icefall. There is no view of Everest from the Everest base camp. With lots of effort and many days, people can fulfill their dream to be on the base camp of the highest mountain.

Lukla to Everest base camp supports your dream to be on base camp. We will stay at Gorekshap the day we made Everest base camp. The next day either trek down or visit Kalapather viewpoint situated at 5545 m elevation before trekking down. We can see a very close view of Everest from Kalapather top and it has 360 degrees Mountain View all around. Base camp can see clearly from Klalapather’s top.
