Badimalika trekking in Nepal is one of the new Trekking trails in Nepal. This trek is identify as well as explore by TAAN. TAAN stands for Trekking Agencies Associations of Nepal. Badimalika trekking trails lie in Bajura districts in far western regions of Nepal. The Badimalika temple is the major attractions of this Trekking trail which is on top of a Hillock. The elevations of this place are 4200 meters above the sea level. During the Janai Purnima people make big celebration on this place.

On Badimalika temple, Thousands of people visit from Nepal as well as neighbor country India during the auspicious occasion of Janaipurnima festival. Bajura Districts in Nepal is well known as one of the rich districts in terms of Culture and traditions of local peoples. People here performs different dance such as Deuda, Hudkeuli, Bhuwo and Thadi. The trail is possible to trek throughout the year. Sometime the heavy snowfall during the winter time can affect trekking people.

We can have tea houses on the lower areas but are also advised to be self sufficient on food and accommodations. The trekking trail is relatively new for anyone so it is advisable to hire local guide. The local guide will help to find the right trails because there is lacks of signposts and other infrastructures on trails. People also can enjoy Khaptad National park and Budhi Nanda Lake on Bajura districts. The popular Rara-Khaptad circuit trek also passes through Bajura.

Major Festivals

Badimalika trekking in Nepal also provide opportunity to celebrate different festivals. Every year there is a fair at this temple during the months of Bhadra. There are two official fairs during Ganga Dashara and Janai Purnima.

Itinerary

Today journey begins with a flight to Dhangadi which is known as business and tourist center of far-western region. From Dhangadhi, a drive of around 4 hours via Godavari will take you to Dadeldhura. Dadeldhura is known for its unique culture and traditions. The famous Ugratara temple, historical places such as Amaragadhi fort and Alital are the major attractions in this town. We also able to see the breathtaking views of Api and Saipal mountains. The hills around also looks nice to see. While in Dadeldhura don’t forget to taste Kheer which is a typical dessert. We will have accommodation in hotel.

After breakfast, you begin a four hour drive to Sanre of Achham. It is the beautiful town with good hotels and restaurants. Two road starts from here, one is to Martdai and the other to Mangalsen. Mangalsen is the district headquater of Achham. After having lunch there we will take first road which passes along the Budhi Gandaki River. A drive of around three hours will take you to Jadanga which is small village with few tahouses along wih health post. We will stay night in teahouse.

Today’s journey begins with a breakfast and then walking through beautiful landscapes. The walk is mostly the uphill. We will hike around three hours to reach the small village called krodh. We will prepare lunch here or order food at local teahouse. It is a beautiful village with attractive landscapes, waterfalls, green forests and mesmuring streams. This place is also the home to different species of flora and fauna. Budha krodh is where we stay night. It is the last settlement in a trek. We can only see buffelo sheds on this trail beyond this Budha krodh.

After breakfast we will walk through dense forests. After walking three hours you will see first buffalo sheds. This is the perfest place for lunch. Here we can also able to buy buffalo milk and curd from local herders. After lunch the trail go up reaching the altitude of 3800 meters. Trekkers may fell altitude sickness here. To avoid such sickbness it is advisable to walk slow and drink enough fluids. After that the trek passes through big grasslands brightened with colourful flowers. A walk around three hours after lunch takes you to the Bhito place where we will stay in tented camp.

After breakfast the trail goes uphill walk. During the walk we will see big grasslands, waterfalls and mesmerizing streams along the way. After walking for 5 hours we will reach Triveni which is the final destination of a day. It is the place of great religious significance. During the major festivals we can see around more than 1500 tents. On Janai Purnima people take holy bathe in the nearby rivers in the morning and walk towards the Badimalika temple. We will have a tented accomodations.

Today we can see people taking holy bath in the morning as you wake up. People believe that holy dip in Triveni will help them get rid of sins.Some even pay homage to their forefathers at this place because of the belief that it will open gateway to heaven for the departed souls. A walk of about an hour from Trivani will take you to the place called Khetibeti from where the Badimalika hill can be seen. We also see plant resembling paddy growing naturally. According to myths, birds sow seeds of these plants. People believe that the plants bring good luck to whoever gets it. We will have tented accomodations.

A beautiful morning greets you in Triveni. You can catch breathetaking views of surroundings areas by climbing up nearby hills. As there are no tea houses in the area that’s why we have to carry packed lunch. We will able to see beautiful plants and wild flowers along the trail to Badimalika. Locals believe that fragrance of these flowers create headache and vomiting. The temple of Lodibinayak falls on the way where pilgrim’s offer worship to lord Ganesha. We see Badimalika temple and Triveni far below which looks great from top. We will have a tented accommodations.

Rise early if you want to enjoy the view of Api and Saipal mountains glattering in the morning sun. The view of sunrise and widespread grasslands below cannot be described in words standing above the clouds atop the Badimalika hill, one feels like standing at the highest point on earth. Pilgrims have strong beliefe that goddess Badimalika fulfills all their wishes. After lunch, you start descending towards Dhawalpur Lake. As the trail is steep, it can be nerve-racking for some travelers. But once you reach Dhawalpur Lake, you feel rejuvenated. It is a beautiful place to spend your night.

Dhawalpur Lake is a popular beautiful lake located amidst dense forests. It is situated at an elevation of 2556 meters.The lake is spread over 500 SQ meters. A walk about three hours from Dhawalpur Lake takes you to the Famous Natyashwori temple. The temple wears festive look during Janai Purnima festival, drawing people from far and wide. It is also believed that one must visit Natyashwori temple after visiting Badimalika. People can be seen performing Deuda. Deuda is a cultural dance popular in far western region. A walk around half hour from Natyashwori take to Lamagadhi for lunch.Once you enjoy beautiful views of different landmarks in Bajura from Lamagadh. We have home stay facility for staying. It is the first home stay in Bajura.

After breakfast, you begin your journey towards Mourya. On the way.you can see the confluence of Budhiganga and Malagadh Rivers. This place is a popular stopover for visitors because of its natural beauty. After lunch in Mourya, we head toward Silgadhi which is the district headquarter of Doti.

While in Silgadhi, travelers must visit the famous Shaileshwori Temple which is highly revered by Hindus. Silgadhi is located at the high altitude with splendid view of Dipayal valley which lies at a drive of about half an hour from Silgadhi. The beautiful Seti river which flows through the Dipayal valley has enhanced the beauty of this place. After breakfast at Silgadhi, you head towards Dadeldhura for lunch then to Mahendranagar for night stay at hotel.

You can visit Shuklaphata Natioal Park after breakfast whwre you can see black bucks and other species of deer. After that you can viist Mahakali River to see the longest suspension bridge in Nepal. The bridge links Chandani and Dodhara villages of Nepal. After that head towards Dhangadh, you catch flight to Kathmandu.

Essential Information

Getting Badimalika Temple

To reach Badimalika temple, one has to make a difficult trek lasting 2-3 days from Martdi. Martdi is the headquarter of Bajura District. The temple is at a remote location and since the route to the temple is not well developed. The trail has lack of lodges and restaurants for the travelers to eat and rest. Travelers have to carry all the necessary amenities by themselves. In trek people can witness various species of wild flowers and various domestic animals like sheep, goats and buffalo's. We can see them grazing in the hills. We can choose two ways to start Badimalika visit either by road or flights.

By road

To reach Martdi by road, one has to go first to Dhangadhi or Nepalganj. After that we need to reach Saafebagar of Achham. From Saafebagar, there is a moter-able road that leqads up to Bramhatola Serabazar. During the rainy season, there is no alternative but to walk from Saafebagar.

By Air

A domestic flight from Nepalganj to Bajura airport is also available. From Kolti, a days trek will lead to Martadi, the headquarters of Bajura District.
