Mardi Himal Trekking is one of the best hiking routes in the Annapurna region. The popular Mardi route is the most followed route after the famous Annapurna circuit trek & Annapurna base camp Trek. The Mardi name has come from the name of the Popular mountain Mardi. The Mardi Mountain is standing on an elevation of 5,587 meters. Mardi Himal was first climbed by Basil Goodfellow.
The Mardi Trek is a stunning & challenging trek route near the Tourist Hub Pokhara. The Mardi trek has to be a camping trek for a long time. People used to carry tents and food by themselves or by guide porters for many years to see this stunning view. The Mardi Himal Camping trek is hard and needs a lot of money for porters and trek arrangements which makes the trek not a first choice.
The Short Mardi Himal Trekking starts from the beautiful city of Pokhara with a drive to Kande or Phedi. Passing the popular Australian camp known as the best viewpoint near Pokhara. Pothana, Deurali village can be experienced before entering the oak, Rhodendrons, and bamboo forests. The trail mostly goes through the forest until reaching the Popular Badal Danda.
Beginning of Mardi Himal Teahouse Trekking
The Mardi Trek was opened in 2012. The trek is opened following a ridge towards the Mardi Mountain. The Mardi trekking is possible with lodges and teahouses open to an elevation of 3,550 meters. The Mardi base camp stands at an elevation of 4,500 meters above sea level. The peak is classified as a trekking peak by the Nepalese government and Many Adventure Hiking companies offer it on their package list.
Now, Mardi Himal Tea House trekking become the first choice for people who are looking for a short trek with stunning views. The trek is easily accessible from Pokhara in short trekking days which makes this trek popular among the trekkers. Electricity and Charging on Mardi Himal
On the lower parts of the trek, they have an electricity facility where you can have a charging plug in the room or in the dining. Here they do not charge you for the battery charging and mobile charging. When you go higher they use solar panels to charge phones and for lights.
For Charging they cost you 300 to 500 for full charging. Most people carry power banks so that they don’t have to pay for charging in higher elevations. Sometimes due to cold, the power bank does not last for long periods of time. Some people also carry solar panels so that they can charge all their accessories during the time when there is sun.
Spending on solar panel and power bank definitely cost you lots of money but you can use those items for another trip or in dial use too. Electricity and Charging on Mardi Himal trekking is improving and will be best in few years time.

Accommodations on Mardi Himal
The Mardi Himal route mostly goes through the local villages. From Kande, we go to an Australian camp for lunch. They have a good dining room on teahouses. In case you need to stay the night here they have a good room with an Attached Bathroom. From here we will mostly go to Deurali which also has a good attached room with toilets. The accommodations in forest camp and low camp are basic too. There are a few good lodges in Badal Danda but they have water problems and they need to depend on rain water. In the high camp, they have some good rooms.
So, the accommodations on Mardi Himal Trekking are quite okay. If you want to know about Magic Himalaya treks accommodation in Kathmandu & Pokhara It’s customizable on your request. Most of the time we used Hotel Thamel Park on Kailash Kutee in Kathmandu. In Pokhara, we used Hotel Splendid View or a similar category.
Foods on Mardi Himal
Food during all Trekking in Nepal is mostly typical. Food on Mardi Himal Trekking is also typical. We can get all typical dishes from Nepal, India, China and western countries. Dalbhat which have rice, lentil soup, Chapatti, grilled vegetables & spinach is one of the best choice for many trekkers. Dalbhat is the best value for money because we can refill the meal until you become full of stomach. Dalbhat is the first choice for hungry trekkers.
The Mardi Himal food menu is Similar to food on the Everest base camp trek or any other trek in Nepal. The menu has international dishes such as Spaghetti, Pizza, Burger, Sandwiches, and many more. Finding something green and fresh is what most trekkers want during those treks. Most of the food items are stored for long periods of time which might bring different problems. Avoids eating meats and dairy products because they are haphazardly carried by donkeys or people from lower parts and they cause food poison for many people.
What is the Best time for Mardi Himal?
Mardi Himal can be done all the year but April and October are considered as one of the main peak hiking seasons in Nepal. We have the best weather conditions during this time which results in all routes being busy. Some people prefer fewer people which can be in March or November but may be quite unlucky about the weather.
Some people prefer doing the Mardi route during the offseason in December and January which is also a good choice if you prefer trekking on snow. Book with a company so they can contact different tea houses to open because the teahouses mostly closed at that time. They will open on company request. The best time to visit Nepal and Mardi Himal is from March to May and september to November.
Trekking Permits for Mardi Himal
For doing any treks inside the National parks and conservation area we need to obtain trekking permits. We also need Trekking permits for Mardi Himal Trek which we can get from the Tourism Information Center. We have a tourist information center in the tourism board which is in Kathmandu As well as Pokhara.
To get TIMs card and permits the trekking company needs a passport, passport size photo, and insurance policy (insurance is not Compulsory)

Blankets, Hot shower & WIFI
If you go in a peak season then we recommend carrying a sleeping bag. Our magic Himalaya Treks provide the Sleeping bag for our clients. We give sleeping bags and duffel bags to use during the trek which you have to return after the trek is finished. The tea houses on the lower parts of the trek provide enough blankets and the temperature is not that cold compared to high camp and Badal Danda. On higher elevations also we can get enough blankets but sometimes not enough.
A Hot shower in the room is available on the lower parts of the trail but it’s hard to find a good Hot shower on trial. Some parts have problems with water so it’s better to carry baby wipes and clean our body parts. This is the recommended idea. WIFI is available on most parts of the trail lodges and may charge you for hats. Some of the tea houses on lower parts of the trail will provide free. For this, you need to contact your guide. You can also take Ncell or NTC Data pack which works well on trek routes.
Different routes to Mard Himal
There are different routes to Mardi Himal Trekking and some of the best routes that people follow are discussed below:
Starting in Kande and finishing in Siding
The normal Mardi Himal treks starts in Kande and end in siding village. This route is also known as a standard route which is mostly followed by people coming from Kathmandu & Pokhara. The main route starts at Kanda where we reach by drive from Pokhara. We will walk towards the Australian camp the Pothana & Deurali to reach the forest camp. After here single way to high camp and Mardi then back to low camp. From the low camp, we take different routes to finish the trek. We will finish walking in siding which is the best option. We can easily get a jeep from Siding to Pokhara.
Starting in Ghandruk/ Kyumi and then Finishing in Siding
Some people like to do the Mardi Himal trek after completing poon hill or ABC. People can start the Mardi route from Ghandruk or Kyumi Village. We can drive from Pokhara to Ghandruk or Kyumi to start the trek. From there the route goes to Landruk and climbs to forest camp. Like others, the ending is in Siding village where we can get a jeep and bus to go to Pokhara.
Starting in Landruk and ending at Siding
This is the shortest option for the Mardi Himal route. Driving straight to Landruk from Pokhara is possible either by jeep or bus. While driving straight we need to have a rest day or an acclimatization rest day somewhere on the trek either in Badal Danda or low camp. Drive from Pokhara to Landruk last pat is so bad most of the people prefer walking rather than taking the bus.
Starting in Ghandruk and finishing in Kande
This is one of the nice trails where you start your journey on Ghandruk village. You reach Ghandruk by walking or driving from Nayapul. From Ghandruk trek down to Kyumi then cross the bridge to climb Landruk village. From there we also need to climb again to reach the Forest Camp then follow the same route to Badal Danda and High Camp. On the way back we will come to forest camp instead of going siding from low camp. From the forest Camp, we will pass Deurali, Pothana, and Australian camp. We will end in Kanda and then drive back to Pokhara.
Insurance for Mardi Himal
Mardi Himal is the high altitude trek in short periods of time so, Insurance for Mardi Himal is important to have. The Mardi route goes through the remote area and difficult to access are inside the Annapurna Conservation Area. In case of emergency the evacuation & medical treatment is expensive that’s is why we need insurance for claiming those expenses.
While going on a trek most of the trekking companies ask you for the travel insurance card or insurance policy details on paper or through emails. They will arrange evacuation in case of an emergency on the mountain. The insurance is not compulsory but will work perfectly if you have issues on a trip.
There are lots of insurance companies where you can inquire about the cost and services. JS Insurance and World Nomads are two well-known names in this insurance industry.
Immunization Before Mardi Himal
These are some of the Immunizations that trekkers should have before doing the Mardi Himal Trek. This will keep you stay from the conditions and sickness after you finish the journey and you can fly back with no problems.

Gurung, Magar, and Thakali townlets add an artistic highlight to this region.
You can get from three-day view treks to month-long journeys of the high-altitude Annapurna Circuit and Sanctuary trails in this region. And if you want to beat the crowds also, Khopra and Mardi Himal are stylish journeys.FAQ
The Normal cost for the guide is USD 25 and for the porter is USD 20. The trekking company might charge you USD 30 for a guide and USD 25 for a porter because they need to do the insurance for their guide and porters. The company also helps them (guide, Porter & their Family) if they get sick in the mountains or if someone lost their life during trek poids.
Before April 2023 anyone can trek Mardi Himal solo but from 1st April 2023, it's not allowed to trek individually. All international trekkers need a licensed trekking guide to do the Mardi Himal trek. You can hire a guide from the trekking company or join their departure dates.
Mardi Himal is a moderate trek route that does not need any mountaineering skills or experience. This trek is a good example of an acclimatized trek for preparing for high expeditions and challenges. The good thing about trek is you can get down quickly if you feel bad or sick.
The Mardi Himal Trekking routes have many routes to combine with other trek routes. If you combine it with poon Hill Trek, Ghandruk Trek, or Annapurna Trek then it takes you 3 days to 8 days more to complete. If you do just a straight itinerary from Pokhara to Mardi Himal and back then it is 5 days program from Pokhara to Pokhara. If you count from Kathmandu on arrival to departure then it's a nine (9) day Itinerary package.
