Trip Highlights

- Experience Nepal’s leading community-based eco trek, living in locally managed lodges that support the rural villages directly.

- Stunning sunrise and sunset views over Dhaulagiri. Annapurna region, Machhapurche (Fishtail), Nilgiri, and Manaslu from Mohare Danda (3,300 m).

- Trek through peaceful Magar and Gurung villages, enjoying and experiencing unique, authentic Himalayan culture, traditional hospitality, and local organic cuisine.

- Tails decorated by beautiful blooming rhododendron flowers, oak, pine forests, varieties of birds, and panoramic views of mountains away from the crowds.

- Combining the scenic Mohare Danda with famous Poon Hill viewpoints is one of the best short experiences in the Annapurna region.

This is Nepal’s best community-based, eco-friendly trek in the Annapurna Region. The Mohare Danda Trek is a short and scenic alternative route, a relatively lesser-known trekking trail that offers a different level of blend of beauty, rich culture, and long-term tourism. Situated in the Annapurna region, this trek provides an excellent alternative to the often crowded trails of the more popular Annapurna and Poon Hill treks. Travelers consider the Mohare Danda Eco-Communities Trek a rewarding and premium destination in Nepal, offering a distinctive and sustainable adventure through eco-friendly communities.

The Mohare Danda Trek is not just a trek; it is more than a trekking experience. It is the journey of cultural immersion, environmental conservation, and community empowerment.

Alternative to Mohara Danda Trek

The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, Mardi Himal trek, and Khopra Ridge trek are the alternative treks to the Mohara Danda trek. These treks are longer in days, but the views are closely the same level. The lifestyles of people living on all these treks are also closely related. For the Mardi Himal trek & Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, you need to spend 10 days on each one. For the Khopra Ridge trek, we need to have 14 days to complete it from arrival to departure. We only need 9 days from arrival to departure to visit the Mohara Dada Trek. People interested in doing all these treks can remember the Magic Himalaya Treks company for service at a higher level.

The Mohare Danda trek actually starts from the local sacred religious site called Galeshwor Dham. During the trek we should not forget to check out the historically and culturally important Lord Shiva Temple of Galeshwor. The hike starts after passing over the suspension bridge crossing the Kaligandaki River. When you pass through a green forest, you will feel more relaxed and comfortable.

On the route of Banskharkha, you will pass through the jungle and a few dispersed farmhouses of corn, lemon, etc., along the way. Furthermore, it will be a good idea to travel slowly and steadily to get an opportunity to soak in the beauty of nature with the breathtaking views of snow-capped Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and Nilgiri and other peaks.

Finally, after two or three hours of hiking, you will reach a beautiful village Banskharkha. This village is also popular as Orange trees (suntala kharkha). This is the excellent stop point for the trek. Travelers can utilize the rest of their time visiting the orange farm, local school, authentic local ethnic Magar culture and their lifestyles.

Day : 04
  • Accommodation: Community-based local-standard lodge
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included

After the three hours of challenging hike, you will arrive at the settlement of Danda Kateri. Here you will enjoy lunch with stunning views of Dhaulagiri Mountain and the tip of South Annapurna. After finishing lunch, we move towards Nangi Village, where we will stay overnight in a community lodge.

Nangi Village: Nangi Village is one of the very few areas where you can watch wireless internet pioneer and social worker Mahabir Pun’s work and also can participate in local community activities if you want. Nangi Village is the birthplace of communication technology pioneer Mahabir Poon, the founder of this trek route.

  • Accommodation: Community-based local standard lodge
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included
  • Transportation: only Hiking
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Elevation: 3300 m

After a delicious breakfast in Nangi, we pack some drinks and foodstuff for the trek because there is no village along the way. We spend our six-hour-long day hiking through the beautiful trail and untouched forest, providing a stunning view of snow-capped mountains, including Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters)

This is the long and exciting hike about six to seven hours to reach in Mohare Danda (3300 m). While passing through the trail, you will be rewarded with some amazing things, such as different peaks and dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and bamboo trees. Your effort will likely be smaller due to the great nature of the surroundings you will encounter along the way. Likewise, you will get an opportunity to witness and see the variety of birds, and you might encounter wild animals. You may encounter the yak gazing in the pastureland near the hiking trail.

You can choose a snack spot yourself, discussing it with your group, or you can use it along the way until you reach the highest point of this trek, Mohare Danda (3300 m) hill / Mohare Danda Lodge.

From the top of the Mohare Danda, you can enjoy the panoramic views of the Himalayas, including close-ups of Dhaulagiri (8,172 m), Nilgiri (7,061 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), Annapurna I (8,091 m), and the climbing-prohibited mount Macchapurchhe (6,997 m).

You stay in the community-based lodge overnight. From the lodge, you can enjoy the mesmerizing sunrise and sunset over beautiful mountains from the window. Also, you can see the nighttime views of stars and mountains from your room.

There are no other homes belonging to the local residents in this area. Regardless, this is the highest wireless internet relay station in Nepal. It serves as a channel for internet connectivity to Nepal’s most remote communities, where it is used in schools and health clinics.
