Upper Dolpa Trekking is a famous trek. It is remote as well as an unspoiled trekking area. It is near the Tibetan border of Nepal between the Tibetan Plateau and Dhaulagiri ranges. In 1989 Dolpa is open to visiting. Many Visitors started to do trekking as well as visiting. The south part of the Dolpa area is open for organizing group trekking. The upper Dolpa is taken as Mystical Beauty. Due to remoteness, the area is untouched. by modern constructions as well as facilities haven’t reached there. Remoteness adds a sense of beauty among visitors around the world. Being closer to the Tibet area, Dolpa is influenced by Tibet as well as Tibetan. The customs and traditions here are similar to Tibet. It is the Famous restricted trekking region.
About Upper Dolpa
Dolpa is beautiful as well as the least developed district of Nepal. Dolpa is a less visited region. The high trekking trail makes this Upper Dolpa trekking challenge. The trek passes through beautiful valleys, interesting places as well as Gigantic Mountains. Local settlements, as well as greenery forests of pine, Rhododendrons, and oaks, added to the beauty of this region. Itinerary
We will pick you upon your arrival at Kathmandu international airport. We will transfer to the hotel in Thamel. Visit Magic Himalaya Treks office in the evening. You will get all the details of Trekking including guide, sightseeing guide, etc. We will have a welcome dinner in the evening with dance and music.
Our representative's tour guide will pick you after breakfast and take you to sightsee a few places. In the afternoon you will have plenty of time to do last-minute shopping for trek. Trek preparations well are what we needed for this Dolpa trek.
Generally, we go through Nepalgajung to get Dolpa. First, we will fly to Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj is situated in the south part of Nepal. It is a hot city. We will stay at night in this town.
We will take a 35 minutes flight from Nepalgunj to reach Juphal. We will have a wonderful view of snowed capped mountains. It is a small village with fresh air. We will stay in this village because we arrange our staff and equipment from here.
Trek to chhepka (2838 m)
6 hrs
Passing Shey Phoksando National Park as well as local villages we will reach Chhepka for night stay. This is one of the nice places to camp.
Trek to Palam – (3820 m
6-7 hrs
To reach Palma, we have to pass through beautiful forests. We will ascend some and sometimes need to descend. After 4 hours walk, we will reach Reechi village. After 2 hours we will reach Chumuwar. We can see Amchi hospital with doctors with knowledge about traditional Tibetan medicine. We will have a camp in Palam.
We need 4 hours to reach Phoksundo Lake. We have to climb a steep about 2 hours, before reaching the top. We will see the highest waterfall know as sunlight waterfall. This Waterfall is 107 m high. We will do walk around surrounding and stay a night here.
Exploration day
3-4 hrs
Today is time for a rest day to admire the beauty of this place. We will visit some nearby villages and overnight in this camp.
Trek to Salla Ghari (3640 m)
5-6 hrs
Today is the day we will enter the restricted area of Dolpa. We will follow the famous trail where the famous movie CARAVAN of Eric Valli was cast. This is the same route used by Dolpa people and other trade with Tibetans. We will also have a spectacular view of Kanjirowa Himal (6883 m) then we will reach an alpine area of junipers called Thaneba. We will have an overnight in tented camp.
Trek to Lar tsa (4120 m)
6 hrs
Today we will pass Sallagiri and then trekking between high rocks wall on both sides. We will cross a couple of streams. We will enter a narrow gorge where we will set our camp.
Trek to Shey Gompa (4320 m)
6-7 hrs
Today we will start the trek by a long and strenuous climb about 2 and a half hours. The path is dusty and passes Kang la (5350 m). It is also called Ngadra la. From there we need to descend through pass covered with snow. This is a steep walk. We will reach Shey gompa which is from the 11th century. Many people visit this gompa as a pilgrimage site. People make a kora (clockwise circuit) of crystal peak. We will stay at night in this place.
Rest day in Shey Gompa
2-3 hrs
We can explore around Tsakang gompa which is about 457 m. It is like a retreat place. It is a meditation center for many lamas of Tibet. We will visit around and stay at night in this place.
Trek to Namgung (4430 m)
6 hrs
To get to Namgung, we have to cross the pass Sheyla which is called Geln La. It is 5000 m. we can see the beautiful view of Northern part of the Tibetan plateau. This is also the highest plateau in the world. To the east part, we can see Mustang. After the pass, we descend to Namgung. This is a friendly environment and local welcomes you. Stay a night in this place.
Trek to Saldang (4046 m)
3 hrs
Today we start with tree slope. We have to ascend to 4700 m before going down the steep slope to Sandland. It is a beautiful picturesque village situated on a plateau high above the Nam Khong Nala and the biggest villages of the Lower Dolpa area. We will stay in these villages.
Trek to Sibu (4000 m)
6 hrs
We will leave Sadland village and on the way to Sibu, We have to pass through terraced files. We also need to pass stupas, Chortons, Mani and a monastery. We will pass Namdo village which has sixty houses. we will set a camp near the small settlement of Sibu. Stay the night in this place.
We will follow the line of the river and the trail is easy going initially. But after two hours, we must make another stream before turning into the side valley. We will camp in Place called TeheJengle.
Trek to Tokyo Gaon (4240 m)
6-7 hrs
To reach Tokyo gaon we have to cross the Jeng la which is in 4850 m. It will take about 2 hours to climb to reach the top of Jeng La. We will have a good view of Dhaulagiri, after walking around 6 hours we will reach the Tokyo gaon where we will stay the night.
We will walk east along the downward lower of Tarap Chu to go Dho Tarap. The trail is easy to walk. We can see many Mani walls. There is a french school just outside the village of Dho Tarap. Here we can see Buddhist people. We will Stay the night in this place.
Trek to serkam (3623 m)
7 hrs
Today’s route follows the course of the Tarap Khola which is downhill. We will go through narrow gorges with the river. We may see blue sheep, marmots, yaks, sheep as well as goats. We can see modern suspension bridges for people as well as animals. We will stay at night in this place.
Trek to Tarakot (2280 m)
5 hrs
You leave the village passing bridges and then walk alongside the river. Sometimes going very high before reaching down to the water again. Some are quite demanding. We will have lunch and a night stop at the same place.
Trek to Dunai (2109 m)
5 hrs
Today we will walk beside Bheri River. We will use the ingenious path built twenty feet above the river. We will reach the village of Dunai and do camping. You now have completed the circuit. Celebrations can be done. Stay there.
Trek to Jhupal (2404 m)
3 hrs
Today is the flat way and the final hour up to your destination seems steeper. We will have a tented camp for the night.
We will have an early flight to Nepalgunj. After 35 minutes of the flight, We will connect the flight to Kathmandu. You will have shopping in Thamel and walk around. We will have dinner together in the evening.
Today is the last day of a trip. On the way back home you will have plenty of time to think about this trip and plan the next adventure with Magic Himalaya treks.

Nepal is open for all kinds of trekking and hiking adventures so you can now visit Nepal. There are curtains rules you need to follow if you want to Visit Nepal. First things is you need to have a latest PCR report to get visa and visa need to be do online before you come. You also need to have a Corona insurance that covers at least US$5,000. Trekking guide and porter also need to have corona insurance that covers at least US$1000. We need to know you flights tickets details so that we can inform immigration's about your arrivals. Passport copies and pictures also need for doing paperwork's, TIMs and permits which we need to make before you come and send back to you which you need to show on different place.
After you arrival in Kathmandu, we will Pick you and Transfer to hotel where you will stay 8 days Quarantine and again check PCR test. The Negative Results will let you to do trekking and hiking. If you got Positive test you will have to stay quarantine or hospital depends on your conditions.

Essential Information
Language of Dolpa
The Nepali language is not common in the Dolpa area much. The people of this area mostly speak the Tibetan language. Rarely some people can understand Nepali languages.
Dolpa Trekking Permits
Travelers need to Have special Permits to travel to the Dolpa area. The special permits cost USD 500 for the first ten days. The days after 10 days cost you USD 10 per day. We need to have at least a group of two travelers to get permits for this trekking area. Individual single permits do not issue for this area.
Best season for upper Dolpa trekking
The best time to do upper Dolpa trek is summer and monsoon season. Due to the heavy snowfall as well as the slippery trail we cannot trek in the winter season.
The trek starts from Kathmandu airport. First of all, take a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj then to Jhupal. We have fixed itinerary for the Upper Dolpo trekking.
